By your understanding of the term, I am dead – and have been so for around three hundred years now, since the summer of 1706. Literature and folklore have a range of names that can be applied to me, although vampire is the most popular and perhaps has the most appropriate connotations. Sunlight is deadly to my kind, and from time to time I must kill in order to survive… and yes, I do so by feeding on the blood of the living.
In my time I have seen wonders and horrors, and found myself tested to extremes I never dreamed of in my genteel youth, faced implacable enemies who taught me the true meaning of monstrosity. Now, it is time for my tale to be told, with the future of humanity and the planet we share at stake I must be heard - no matter what the cost.
